Essentially, an orphanage is an institution that cares for orphans in need of homes. These homes take care of the children until foster parents adopt them.
But for the proprietor of the Good Shepherd Orphanage, there appeared to be other motives for setting up the home. This was what Rotimi Williams set out to unravel. In a series of reports in Sunday Punch, he brought out shocking tales of child trafficking, and unwholesome practices. The stories were so detailed and so regular they shocked the sensibilities of Sunday Punch readers. They also showed Rotimi Williams as an enterprising reporter with keen sense of responsibility.
He spoke with all those concerned with the case: police, social workers, state officials and local security groups. His report indicted many. The state closed down the home and carried out reforms in the affected ministry. Williams holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communications Art. He joined The Punch in 1994 as a reporter and rose through the ranks to become a senior correspondent.
