Beyond the statistics and jargons often put together on HIV/AIDS, there are many challenges of the ailment that need to be addressed to stem its spread.
These challenges were the thrust of Ronke Olawale’s, “The Other faces of the HIV/AIDS”, the winning work in the HIV/AIDS Reporting category. The story examines the various challenges people living with the disease have to face in their daily struggles to survive: non availability of Anti- Retroviral Therapy (ART), psychological and social challenges and stigma.
Olawale addresses these issues skillfully, displaying a good understanding. The result is a lucid report that would generate reader’s interest any day.
A past winner in this category, Olawale holds a Bachelor’s degree in English from Ondo State University and a Master’s in English from the University of Lagos.
She joined The Guardian in 1993 as a Youth Corp member and was retained after her service year. She is presently a Correspondent on the features desk of the paper.
