DAME presents 18th edition with book and music <<==== click
The craft of informed commentary received a boost at the 18th presentation of the annual Diamond Awards for Media Excellence on Sunday, December 6 with the release of a new book, “Nigerian Columnists and their Craft.”
A groundbreaking work on the role, place and essence of column writing and columnists in Nigerian journalism, it is edited by Lanre Idowu, and has as contributors: Adidi Uyo, Mike Awoyinfa, Sunny Ojeagbase, Stanley Egbochuku, Dan Agbese, Emeka Izeze, Ben Lawrence, Tony Momoh, Felix Adenaike, Gbenga Omotoso, and Maxim Uzoatu. The 250 page book features the works of columnists across various generations from Ebenezer Williams to Mohammed Haruna, Doyin Abiola, Ochereome Nnana, Azu Ishiekwene, Reuben Abati etc. Dedicated to Alade Odunewu, it is the organisers’ gift to the profession in this 150th year of the Nigerian press.

A Lifetime of Service <<==== click
Three elder statesmen were conferrd with the Lifetime Achievement awards at the December 6th DAME presentation. They are:
Chief Anthony Enahoro, 86, reputed to have been the youngest editor of a major Nigerian newspaper, having been named editor of the Southern Defender at 21 years in 1944. He also edited Daily Comet, Kano, 1945-49; and served as associate editor of the West African Pilot, 1949, before assuming the position of editor in chief of the Morning Star, 1950-53. As Minister for Home Affairs, Transport, Information and Midwest Affairs in the Western Region, he conceived, sold, and mid-wife the idea of an educational television to the government of Obafemi Awolowo.

DAME holds 18th presentation Sunday, December 6 <<==== click
Three lifetime awards and 24 prizes in journalism, broadcasting, and advertising will be given at the 18th Presentation of the annual Diamond Awards for Media Excellence (DAME) fixed for Sunday at the Oceanview Restaurant, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The lifetime awardees are Chief Anthony Enahoro, former federal information and culture commissioner, and midwife of Africa’s first television station; Alhaji Lateef Jakande, former managing director/editor-in-chief of ANN plc and one-time president of the International Press Institute; and Mallam Turi Muhammadu, former editor and managing director of the New Nigerian.

Daily Trust endows DAME prize for Editorial Integrity <<==== click
Abuja-based Daily Trust has endowed a new prize for journalists with the Diamond Awards for Media Excellence. It is the Daily Trust prize for Editorial Integrity. The award will go to the journalist adjudged to have demonstrated uncommon acts of courage and ethical conduct in discharging professional duties in a particular year.

At 80, Hadj Alade Odunewu does not look his age. He carries on with such elegance in speech, in gait and in looks that he can pass for someone much younger. Allah-De, as he is fondly called by friends, associates and colleagues, has carved a niche for himself in the profession. At his age, he is very much abreast with developments and trends in journalism and still participates actively in journalism workshops, seminars and events.
