The Child Friendly Media Award sponsored by UNICEF rewards committed and sustained coverage of issues affecting the Nigerian Child by a media house. More than any of 14 Nigerian newspapers surveyed in 2006, the New Nigerian Newspaper ranks the highest.
Through its news, features and editorials, the New Nigerian has demonstrated its commitment to the Nigerian child. Issues covered range from child trafficking, child nutrition and survival of malaria scourge to polio vaccination, education of the girl-child, rights to education and safe motherhood.
The New Nigerian on a daily basis publishes issues relating to the Nigerian child. To show its commitment as is a Child Friendly Media, the paper maintains a weekly kiddies' page. Children are encouraged to contribute to this page by joining the New Nigerian Week kiddies Club. Aside this, the paper also dedicates generous space to features and opinions on child health and education.
