How stock brokers rip off investors”, the story that won the Capital Market Reporting of the 17th DAME, written by Tony Manauka of Broad Street Journal, examined moves by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to tighten the noose on capital market operators whose stock-in trade is to swindle investors.
The report, published in the November 26, 2007 edition of the magazine, exposed the sundry methods some market operators use to defraud unsuspecting investors and attempts by SEC to nip these fraudulent activities in the bud.
Born 42 years ago, Manuaka holds a Higher National Diploma in Mass Communication from the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ). A widely travelled man, he began his career with The Source magazine in 1999 before having a brief stint with the BBC/EU Journalism Training Project as a project assistant.
He has attended many professional courses in the course of his career among which are the World Trade Organisation media Training in 2005; West African Institute for Financial and Economic Management workshop in 2007 and many others.
He was chairman, Nigeria Union of journalism (NUJ), The Source chapel and a member, media sub committee, Nigerian Economic Summit.
Presently a senior assistant editor of Broad Street Journal, he was formerly as assistant editor, Tell, business editor, Hallmark newspapers and senior sub editor, Daily Sun.
