HIV/AIDS REPORTING

Winning Works

Taking the lid off
Ayodele Ale, Winner, HIV/AIDS REPORTING, at the 17th DAME
Scholars and saints”, the winning work for this year's DAME HIV/AIDS reporting is about the compulsory HIV test as a precondition for graduation in one of Nigeria's private universities, Covenant University.

Written by Ayodele Ale and published in the Saturday Punch, July 14, 2007, the story revealed that graduating from the university by final year students does not depend solely on academic performance but also on testing negative to pregnancy/HIV tests.

Judges commended Ale for not only breaking the story but also doing a follow-up by asking the school authority why they took the action,.

For Ale, who began his journalism career with the Punch in 2003, this is his first DAME. He holds a Masters in Communication and Language Arts and a Bachelor of Education in History from University of Ibadan and Ondo State University respectively.
