ACTION PHOTOGRAPHY

Winning Works

A courageous shot
Simon Ateba , Winner, ACTION PHOTOGRAPHY, at the 17th DAME
This year's winning entry in the Action Photography category is a daring and a courageous shot. Armed robbers had stormed a new generation bank located in the campus of Babcock University. Rather than run for cover like others present at the scene of the incident, Simon Ateba, aviation correspondent of PM News, positioned himself and took photographs of the fleeing robbers after the robbery operation.

“Caught in the act”, published in the August 29 edition of PM News, has a sense of eeriness in that the frozen movements of the gun- carrying figures in the photograph gave a sense of urgency and a sniff of danger. It was a photograph that captured a moment of unease suggesting terrible things about to or that have happened.

Ateba, a Cameroonian, has a Diploma in Mass Communication from the Nigerian Institute of Journalism and a Certificate in English Language from the Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education.

Prior to joining PM News in 2007, he worked as a cyber café manager in Festac and a customer service officer at ICC Net in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
