RADIO REPORTING

Human rights campaigner
Solomon Adebayo, Winner, RADIO REPORTING, at the 17th DAME
Solomon Adebayo, editor/environment and human rights reporter with the Federal Radio Corporation (FRCN), is this year's DAME Radio Reporter of the Year.

Adebayo's entry, “AEPB/ human rights”, was on the activities of the Abuja Environmental Protection Board's taskforce on environmental sanitation. The report exposed the nefarious activities of the taskforce, which was more or less a re-enactment of the gross human rights abuses Nigerians suffered during the military regime. Officials of the taskforce not only brutalize and extort money from people, but also detain those who cannot part with their money into illegal secret detention centres.

Born August 30, 1971, Adebayo holds a Bachelor’s degree in English from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He has attended many professional courses in broadcasting and was the first prize winner in the radio category of the Wole Soyinka Awards for Investigate Reporting in 2007. This is his first DAME.
